CR : Nalanda, 21 December 2025 : Under the Nalanda Literature Festival 2025, Nava Nalanda Mahavihara (Deemed University), Nalanda organized a grand cultural evening at the Xuanzang Memorial Complex. The programme organized by Nava Nalanda Mahavihara beautifully showcased the country’s rich cultural traditions and the historic legacy of Nalanda.
The cultural evening commenced with the invocation of Lord Buddha rendered in a melodious choral presentation by the international Buddhist monk students of Nava Nalanda Mahavihara under the leadership of Dr. Dhamma Jyoti.
The chief guest of the programme, eminent Member of Parliament, author and thinker Shri Shashi Tharoor formally inaugurated the cultural evening by lighting the ceremonial lamp along with Prof. Siddharth Singh, Vice Chancellor of Nava Nalanda Mahavihara, Shri Ganga Kumar and Ms. D. Alia. The occasion was further graced by the distinguished presence of Padma Vibhushan awardee and renowned Indian classical dancer Ms. Sonal Mansingh; former Chairman of NITI Aayog Shri Amitabh Kant; eminent author Shri Vikram Sampath; IPS officer Shri Amit Lodha, famed for Khakee : The Bihar Chapter; Prof. Sachchidanand Mishra, Member Secretary of the Indian Council of Philosophical Research, New Delhi along with several other distinguished dignitaries.
The welcome address was delivered by the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Nava Nalanda Mahavihara Prof. Siddharth Singh. In his address, he highlighted the historical significance of the Xuanzang Memorial Complex and announced that the mortal relics of the great Chinese traveler and scholar Xuanzang, presently preserved in the Patna Museum would soon be enshrined in this memorial complex.Prof. Singh acquainted the guests with the life and legacy of Xuanzang, the ancient Silk Route, and the historical, cultural, and intellectual ties between India and China, emphasizing that the memorial complex stands as a strong cultural bridge between the two nations.
He also shared information about the Sanskritika Grama run by Nava Nalanda Mahavihara, the Vipassana Centre, where regular Vipassana meditation camps are organized every month, and expressed happiness over the selection of the university as a Bihar States Cluster Manuscript Centre under the ‘Gyan Bharatam’ scheme.
The formal cultural presentations began with “Bihar Mahima,” an impressive performance by Rekha Jha. The folk music presentations vividly reflected the cultural heritage of Bihar.
On this occasion, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Prof. Siddharth Singh felicitated the performing artists by presenting them with ceremonial shawls (khatakas) and lauded their artistic dedication.
The programme witnessed the presence of scholars, academicians, litterateurs, artists, and a large number of distinguished guests. The event proved to be a significant initiative toward strengthening Nalanda’s living cultural tradition and promoting the spirit of global intellectual and Buddhist dialogue.
